The intimate landscape is defined by a smaller section of the landscape, often below the horizon line.  Elements of Nature are combined and composed in a way which highlight the subject and eliminate distracting elements surrounding the subject.  This is much more difficult than it sounds!  This workshop will build your skills to create more meaningful intimate landscape photographs.

All photography skill levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced.  You’ll receive 1:1 professional instruction along with time to practice for yourself.  This workshop is NOT a tour by any means, it’s a focused workshop to learn and have fun!

What is an intimate landscape photograph?

“…through this photographic eye you will be able to look out on a new light-world, a world for the most part uncharted and unexplored, a world that lies waiting to be discovered and revealed.”

~ Edward Weston ~

Intimate Landscape Photography is all about looking beyond the grander landscape and honing in on the elements of Nature on a smaller scale.  It’s not macro photography as scale is somewhat irrelevant.  It is all about the elimination of distractions and composing an element in a poetic way.  This approach is slow and takes careful attention when composing.  The challenge is to find such scenes in the first place which we’ll explore throughout this workshop.

Intimate Landscapes are images that work well for storytelling, fine art prints and a representation of the artist’s connection to Nature.  The grand landscape relies on large-scale conditions while the intimate landscape relies on the same conditions and more.  In this workshop we’ll learn various techniques to locating such scenes, methods for composing the image and review which elements to eliminate.  I specialize in this type of photography and it’s one of my favorites to teach others.  Join me to see why:)
